Lamu is a small coral island on the north coast of Kenya and has no motorised traffic. The Swahili architecture and white-sandy beaches make it an excellent destination to unwind. It is the oldest and best preserved coastal Swahili town in East Africa (continually inhabited for more than 700 years) and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lamu is one of three islands that make up the Lamu archipelago, the others being Pate Island and Manda Island. There are no direct flights to Lamu Island itself as this island is without an airport. The closest island to fly to is Manda Island – from here Lamu is just a short boat ride away.
