Nairobi is generally used as the ‘jumping off’ point for an African safari, but there is plenty you can do in the city before you hit the open road. Here are some ideas on places you can visit:

• Nairobi National Park – brimming with wildlife: lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, giraffes, gazelles and more.
• David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – inside the National Park there are keepers who take the orphaned baby rhinos and elephants for a daily mud bath!
• The Giraffe Centre – have a close up experience with a giraffe where a number of endangered Rothschild Giraffes are kept.
• Karen Blixen Museum – visit the farm where the famous Danish author of ‘Out of Africa’ resided.
• Bomas of Kenya – Bomas of Kenya is a tourist village in Langata, Nairobi which displays traditional villages belonging to the several Kenyan tribes. Bomas of Kenya is home to one of the largest auditoriums in Africa.
